TanzMED Wins Best Use of ICT in Healthcare at Tanzania TEHAMA Awards 2026

TanzMED has been named the Winner of Best Use of ICT in Healthcare at the TEHAMA Awards 2026, marking an important national recognition of the company's work in digital health and healthcare technology in Tanzania.

The TEHAMA Awards are organized by the Tanzania ICT Commission under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, with the awards process verified by Deloitte.

The award was presented at a ceremony held at Johari Rotana in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, 9 August 2026, with Hon. Angellah Kairuki, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, serving as Guest of Honour.

TanzMED Ranked First in ICT for Healthcare

TanzMED took first place in the Best Use of ICT in Healthcare category, ahead of two major government institutions.

The President's Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG/TAMISEMI) took second place, while the Ministry of Health Tanzania finished third.

The recognition positions TanzMED among organizations demonstrating how ICT, artificial intelligence and digital technology can strengthen healthcare delivery in Tanzania.

For TanzMED, the award is particularly significant because the company is building technology designed not simply to digitize individual healthcare services, but to make the wider healthcare ecosystem easier for people to access.

Building an AI-Powered Healthcare Access Layer for Africa

TanzMED is a Tanzanian health technology company developing an AI-powered healthcare access layer that connects people with healthcare information, professionals and services through digital channels.

The TanzMED platform brings together AI-powered health support, telemedicine, hospital and doctor appointments, reproductive and maternal health, mental health, medical records, laboratory services, pharmacy services and other digital healthcare solutions.

The platform is also designed around African realities, including Swahili-language healthcare, affordability and alternative digital access channels.

This builds on TanzMED's broader mission to make quality healthcare more accessible, affordable and connected across East Africa.

Recognition of Tanzania's Growing Digital Health Ecosystem

Winning the TEHAMA Award reflects the growing role of locally developed technology in Tanzania's healthcare transformation.

As Tanzania expands its digital economy and digital health infrastructure, solutions developed locally can help address challenges including fragmented healthcare services, limited access to professionals, late healthcare seeking and the need for more personalized and preventive healthcare.

TanzMED's long-term ambition is to build infrastructure that helps connect these existing parts of the healthcare system enabling a person to move more easily from health information and AI-supported guidance to professional care, diagnostics, medicine and continuous health management.

The company is already developing and researching more advanced applications of AI in healthcare, including smartphone-based vital-sign monitoring in collaboration with researchers at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).

From Tanzania, Building for Africa

The TEHAMA Awards 2026 recognition represents another step in TanzMED's evolution from a Tanzanian digital health startup into a growing African health technology company.

With healthcare becoming increasingly connected, personalized and AI-enabled, TanzMED aims to demonstrate that important healthcare technologies for Africa can also be designed, developed and scaled from Africa.
